Every culture has had some idea of sin. Sin is usually thought of as something you do, but the label can stretch further than that. A thought, a word, an act can all get called "sinful" if it's selfish, harmful or shameful enough. Over time sins have become less important in our society but do we still need it? Is sin about the act itself, or about who is watching? Can a society sin, or only individuals within it? (original sin) Do we need sin when we have a legal system? If sin disappeared tomorrow, would morality survive?
