Consciousness, the Soul, and What It Means to Be Human

Our first Soul Journey Circle gathering was such a meaningful beginning. We shared a spirited dialogue rooted in open-mindedness, curiosity, and a willingness to explore ideas together. Saturday, October 24 Arrival beginning at 11:00 a.m. Conversation begins promptly at 11:15 a.m. North Bay Village To be respectful of everyone’s time, we’ll begin our conversation promptly at 11:15 a.m. The 15-minute arrival window will give everyone time to settle in, grab a cup of coffee, and connect before we start. Our prompt: What does the rise of AI reveal about consciousness, the soul, and what it means to be human? As AI becomes increasingly capable of imitating human thought, creativity, and even emotion, it invites us to look more deeply at ourselves. What is consciousness, and where does it come from? Is it simply the activity of the mind, or is there something deeper within us? Could a machine ever be truly conscious—and if it could, would that mean it has a soul? Perhaps the most meaningful question isn’t whether AI can become more like us, but what its evolution reveals about what makes us uniquely human. There are no “right” answers—only an invitation to bring your experiences, perspectives, questions, and curiosity. Since I’ll be opening my home for this gathering, attendance will be limited to the first 10 people who RSVP. The address will be shared privately with confirmed attendees.
