Joe Cowan makes magnificent sourdough. But now this bread whisperer is putting down his oven mitts and taking up the quest to find the best sourdough in Portland.

To assemble this sacred collection, Joe bravely scoured the city, selflessly eating bread on our behalf. Loaf after loaf. Bakery after bakery. Lesser men would have stopped for a salad. Joe pressed on.

He’ll introduce each amazing loaf and explain what makes it exceptional. All bread will be provided.

Your sacred assignment: Bring something to put on the bread. A glorious flavored butter. A delicious spread. A wonderful sliced cheese. Whatever you believe exceptional bread deserves. Store-bought is absolutely welcome. Joe has already done enough suffering for everyone.

The commandments of the crust:

✋ Do not sign up unless you are sure you can attend. Your Yes RSVP should be a firm commitment.

💵 Bring $10 cash per person to cover the cost of the bread. Spiritual enlightenment is included.

🧈 Bring one accompaniment per person. Bringing a guest? That means two contributions.

💬 Describe your contribution in the Meetup comments, so our holy abundance doesn’t become twelve tubs of the same hummus.

🍷 Bring your own beverage.

🧰 Bring any special tools needed to serve your contribution. Basic knives, forks, spoons, and tableware will be provided. If your cheese requires specialized engineering, bring the gear.

⏰ Arrive on time for Joe’s opening bread lesson. Even miracles have an agenda.

📅 If you must cancel, do so at least three days before the event.

Come discover what happens when someone with a truly discerning palate does an unreasonable amount of delicious homework.
