Rainbow Vista to Fire Canyon Overlook - Valley of Fire - First Day Hikes

This time of the year there is usually a long line and up to a hour wait to enter the park via the main entrance. Please consider entering from the lake shore drive side of the park, or leave plenty early to allow for long delays.

Start the year right and get out and hike!

This is just one of many hikes taking place in Valley of Fire. Hike times are staggered to allow a chance at a couple hikes if you plan correctly. These hikes are a great example of how far Vegas Hikers has come. The Rangers at Valley of Fire have once again asked us to help organizer and promote the State Park program "First Day Hikes"

Rainbow Vista- A favorite, easy, 1:30 hour or so, 2 mile hike. We pass through a sandy field of lush desert plants and naturally painted rock. Quickly finding our way into a wash that leads down a small canyon to Fire Canyon Overlook. There are amazing photo opportunities along this entire trail.

Directions/Parking/Meeting Area:
From Las Vegas, take Interstate 15 north for about 35 miles to exit 75 (signs for Valley of Fire State Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area). At the end of the offramp, continue southeast on Valley of Fire Highway. Reach the park’s west entrance after 14.5 miles. Drive another 1.8 miles and turn left onto Scenic Loop Road (Campground Road), which will be the first paved road on the left, directly across from a gravel road to Petrified Logs Loop. Drive half a mile, passing the entrance to Atlatl Rock Campground, and turn left into the parking area below Atlatl Rock.
