West Norwood Cemetery Tour

Originally known as the South Metropolitan Cemetery, this was the first cemetery in the world to use the Gothic style. Tour info: Established in 1837, and the second of London's Magnificent Seven cemeteries, the 40-acre West Norwood Cemetery is the resting place of lives well lived - people who changed the course of Victorian society, others who were leaders of the Windrush generation, and people who made a huge impact on medicine, exploration, literature, and art. You'll also see the tombs of some of the names behind our nation's favourite foods, and hear one of the greatest love stories of the Victorian era. You will leave the tour with a deeper understanding of symbolism in Victorian funerary practice and how the Magnificent Seven changed how Victorians saw death and mourning. After the tour we will explore for about an hour and then go to a nearby park or a pub. 📍 Meeting Point West Norwood Cemetery (exact location will be shared closer to the time in our Whatsapp group) 👉 Please Direct Message the host, Rob, to join our WhatsApp group if you intend to join this event 👟 What to bring Comfortable walking shoes Weather-appropriate clothing 🎟️ Tickets & Admission Please purchase your individual ticket for the event here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/walking-tour-of-west-norwood-cemetery-tickets-1992412184478?aff=ebdsoporgprofile&gl=1 All attendees are responsible for purchasing their own ticket.
