"Exhalation" | Den Haag Sci-Fi Book Club - 10

Hello Sci-fi lovers, Our next book is "Exhalation: Stories" by Ted Chiang, and we will meet on 16 October. Exhalation: Stories is a collection of thought-provoking science fiction short stories that explores some of the biggest questions about humanity, technology, free will, consciousness, and the nature of reality. Each story presents a fascinating idea and takes it in an unexpected direction — from alternative worlds governed by different physical laws to artificial intelligence, time travel, and questions about whether our choices are truly our own. Rather than focusing primarily on action or traditional space adventures, Ted Chiang uses science fiction to explore philosophical questions through imaginative and often surprisingly emotional stories. The collection invites us to think about how technology shapes our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Ted Chiang is an American science fiction author renowned for his meticulously crafted short stories. Although he has published relatively few stories, many have received major science fiction awards. His story "Story of Your Life" was adapted into the critically acclaimed film Arrival. Exhalation won the Hugo Award for Best Short Story Collection in 2020 and was also nominated for several other major science fiction awards.
