Details This program is at the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Mizner Park Experience the Museum through the eyes of an artist. This engaging series of talks, tours, and live demonstrations showcases South Florida’s creative community, offering fresh perspectives and behind-the-scenes insights. Join photographer and educator Irene Hill as she explores contrasting approaches to portraiture through the lens of iconic photographers Arnold Newman and Dorothea Lange. While Newman focused on environmental portraits that revealed his subjects' work and lives, Lange captured raw, empathetic close-ups during the Great Depression. Hill will share examples of her own portraiture—drawn from concert settings and street photography—and explain how Newman’s sense of context and Lange’s profound empathy continue to shape contemporary portrait photography. Speaker Bio Irene Hill is a photographer and educator who has taught in Palm Beach County for over 15 years, currently at the Boca Raton Museum Art School. She began her photographic training at Chicago’s Institute of Design and the Creative Arts School in Delray Beach, alongside holding dual master’s degrees in English and Education from Northwestern University. Her rich interdisciplinary perspective is shaped by her diverse background, including 25 years as road manager for a European-touring gospel music group and her work as Senior Program Officer at the Chicago Council on Foreign Affairs.
