We will be doing an eight day out and back hike on the Ouachita Trail starting from Wilhelmina State Park in Arkansas. Our first and last days will be relatively short but the six non-travel days will be between 10-12 miles. There are showers available at Queen Wilhelmina State Park so we can shower before driving home. Hopefully we will be able to carpool. It is about an nine hour drive from Alamo Heights. It would be helpful if you download the FarOut app with the Ouachita Trail module. This lists, among other things, water points and shelters.
There will be no re-supply for this trip. So please plan for dinner on the trail the first day and breakfast and snacks for the last day. The other six days you need to plan for three meals a day plus snacks.
The trail geography is more or less like the Appalachian Trail, lots of ups and downs. We will of course keep an eye on the weather. I plan to have a coordination video call in October so we can lock-in details and sort through travel plans.
