Grove Street Cemetery is one of the oldest burial grounds in the City of New Haven. It was established in 1797; the cemetery was the first in the country designed with family plots.

Located behind a brownstone wall and iron fence running along Grove and Prospect streets, the cemetery serves as the resting place for many historically important figures, and a number of its tombstones date back to the 1600s. Among the notable people buried in the cemetery are Eli Whitney, Noah Webster, Roger Sherman, and fourteen Yale presidents.

Join us for a one-hour PUBLIC walking tour, led by the chief docent.

EVENT FEE:

FREE (tours are generously provided for free by the cemetery).

PARKING:

There are no parking facilities inside the cemetery grounds. Please use street parking. Meters accept coins, credit cards, or the Go New Haven Parking Payment App.

We hope you can join us for a tour of this historic cemetery!
