This is the second in a potential series of easy walking/hiking events to help those interested in hiking evaluate their stamina and enthusiasm, starting with easy events and gradually morphing into more traditional and demanding events. Yes, I know there can be only one inaugural event so I'm playing a little fast and loose here.
Today's hike will consist of two loops and an out-and-back trip to view the dam.
The first loop will be about 2.5 miles with 225' of climb. At that point, we'll be in view of the cars and you can call it a day.
The second loop will be an additional two miles to the dam and back with another 200' of elevation gain. We'll be back at the cars and you can call it a day.
The optional out-and-back section to view the dam will be another mile with 50' of elevation gain.
Sections of the trail will be rocky and rooty so sturdy shoes or boots are recommended. There is one minor stream crossing. Be sure you have the stamina and strength to walk at least three miles on wooded terrain before attempting this hike.
We'll have an optional lunch (half-price cheese steak sandwiches and selected 2-for-1 selected beers) after the hike at the Woodstock Inn.
This event is restricted to members of the Mountain Club of Maryland Meetup Group. Joining is easy and free. Note that the Meetup Section of the Mountain Club is separate from the parent Mountain Club, which is NOT a Meetup group. You are NOT automatically a member of the Meetup group even if you're a dues-paying member of the regular Mountain Club.
Please note the following waiver of liability for all Mountain Club of Maryland Meetup hikes.
