Join me for a day-before-Halloween hike at Hell House!
We’ll start in Orange Grove and use the Bloede Dam Trail to get to the site of the old St Mary’s Seminary which was in operation from 1868-1972. There we’ll view lots of ruins including a shrine, altar, swimming pool, and grotto. We’ll make our way back to the cars on trails north of the river including Forest Glen, Santee Branch, and Nun’s Trail.
The hike is 6-7 miles long and will be led at a pace of 2.25-2.5 mph. There is over 1000 ft of elevation gain, a few stream crossings, and possibly some bushwhacking on a seldom used trail.
Once the initial attendance limit is reached, people will be selected from the waitlist based on their history of signing up for hikes with this group in the past.
Meet in the parking lot next to the swinging bridge for a 9:30 a.m. start. Bring water, a snack or lunch, and poles if you use them.
