Step off the beaten path as I share one of my favourite spots in the quiet heart of the Dandenong Ranges. Following Griffiths Creek beneath towering ferns and through a landscape of moss-covered boulders, hidden pools and flowing water, we'll leave the well-worn trails behind and venture into a secluded corner of the forest that few people ever experience. Following the historic paths of the old Ferndale estate, we'll uncover the peaceful beauty of Griffiths Falls and discover a side of the ranges where moss-covered boulders, hidden pools and flowing waterways reveal themselves amongst the forest.

🌄 Walk Details
Hidden within the quiet heart of the Dandenong Ranges lies Griffiths Falls, a secluded cascade tucked amongst dense forest, shaded gullies and flowing waterways. Reaching this hidden corner of the ranges means stepping beyond the well-travelled paths and into a landscape where nature still feels wonderfully untamed.

Following Griffiths Creek into the valley, we'll share in the adventure of exploring a landscape shaped by water, forest and time. Towering ferns rise above the creek, moss-covered boulders sit scattered beneath the canopy and clear water winds its way between rocks, roots and hidden pools. The further we venture, the more the outside world fades behind us, replaced by birdsong drifting through the trees and the constant murmur of flowing water.

Overgrown sections of trail weave between the creek and forest as clear water slips quietly around moss-covered rocks. Sunlight filters through the canopy above, illuminating hidden pools, vibrant green ferns and fallen trees draped across the watercourse. Every turn reveals another detail of this secluded valley, inviting us to slow down and appreciate the landscape around us.

At Griffiths Falls, flowing water threads its way through a series of mossy rock cascades nestled deep within the forested valley. Here we'll have time to explore the creek, discover hidden pools amongst the boulders and enjoy the peaceful surroundings that make this secluded location such a rewarding destination. Conditions permitting, we'll also climb above the falls for a unique perspective of this hidden corner of the Dandenong Ranges.

Lost to the passage of time, Griffiths Falls was once a popular destination on James Griffiths' Ferndale estate. Visitors followed walking paths through the valley to enjoy the beauty of the creek and falls, pausing beside the water to share conversation and even brew tea using a communal kettle kept nearby. Today, much of that history has been reclaimed by the forest, yet traces of those earlier visitors linger amongst the creek, ferns and moss-covered stone.

Along the way we'll share in the adventure of crossing creeks, exploring hidden corners of the forest and discovering the quiet beauty of Griffiths Falls. From towering ferns and moss-covered boulders to flowing water and forgotten history, this is a walk that invites us to slow down, look a little closer, connect with nature, make new friends and experience a truly special corner of the Dandenong Ranges together.
