Join documentary photographer Marc Asnin at Unique Photo Philly as he presents Act One: A Century in the Making, an ambitious new publication and exhibition bringing together the work of more than one hundred photographers alongside leading scholars and writers.

As Concept and Visual Director, Asnin will speak about the years of research, editing, collaboration, and visual decision-making behind Act One, and how the publication grew into a collective portrait of the first twenty-five years of the twenty-first century. Organized across nine thematic chapters, the work examines the political, social, environmental, technological, and cultural forces that have shaped our time.

The presentation will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how individual photographs were brought into conversation across generations, geographies, and histories, and how Act One evolved from an idea into a major publication and exhibition.

Asnin is an award-winning documentary photographer whose work has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Time, Life, and Newsweek. His honors include the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, an Alicia Patterson Fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
