ABOUT THE EVENT

In partnership with Seattle Area Archivists, Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum welcomes panelists Sarah Shipley (Seattle Municipal Archives), Caitlin Oiye Coon (Densho), Will Dunn (REI Archives),

and Marie Williams Chant (Museum of Glass) for a conversation celebrating 2026 Washington State Archives Month. Moderated by Jennifer Ott (HistoryLink) the panel will discuss digitized, born-digital, and applied archives work happening across the region.

This year's theme, "Find Your Story: Choose Your Own Adventure in Archives," invites the public to explore how archival collections illuminate the past, uncover untold stories, and connect us to histories we didn't know we were part of. As Washington State and the nation look toward America250 and the semiquincentennial of the United States, this event offers a timely opportunity to consider how local archives shape and preserve the stories that make up our shared history. Attendees will learn about digitization, virtual research access, and partnerships with platforms like HistoryLink.

ABOUT THE SEATTLE HISTORY FIELD TRIPS MEETUP

We are amateur historians with an interest in Seattle. Newbies to Seattle are most welcome. Once a quarter, or so, this group organizes a field trip to visit sites which are significant in Seattle's history, and to share what we know about them. In the past we have visited the gravesites of important personages and the locations of famous events. This Meetup is for anyone who has an interest in Seattle's history or who would like to learn more about the founding and growth of Seattle and the surrounding cities, towns, native peoples, highways, dams, natural resources, industries, famous events & dignitaries, famous visitors, etc.
