This is a “Social” ride, starting from the Littlehampton footbridge (west side - please take care not to block the path) at 10.10 am.

Total distance is approximately 29 miles, with around 600 feet of ascent. It is all on road, except for a well-maintained bridleway section that cuts across the old Tangmere airfield.

The majority of the route will be on “B” or minor roads, but we do have to cross and/or cycle for short sections on some busy main roads, including the A259, the A285, the A27 and the A29. We will stop for coffee at Hotham Park in Bognor Regis around 7 miles from the start, and then again for lunch - about 15 miles further on - at The Spur pub near Slindon.

The route (in both gpx. and Komoot versions) will be posted on the club WhatsApp group later in the week after carrying out some final checks, and it is strongly recommended that riders download a copy for their own reference.

Depending on the overall group size it is possible that the pub may require us to pre-order our food, and if so I will post further information on the relevant WhatsApp group. Additionally it is important to know total numbers before the ride so as to arrange sub-group leaders and “back markers”. In view of this the ride will be CLOSED to new participants at 10pm on Sunday 7th November.

Please ensure that your bike is well maintained, and that you bring with you adequate equipment and spares to carry out roadside repairs. We recommend the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly known as “Sustrans”) “M check” - see following link for details (https://www.walkwheelcycletrust.org.uk/our-blog/get-active/mcheck/). In particular you should be able to fix any punctures, and should carry patches and at least one spare inner tube, or for those riding on tubeless tyres repair items - plus in both cases a pump. In the event that your bike cannot be easily and quickly repaired you will need to make your own arrangements to get home.

As it is now getting darker much earlier in the afternoons all riders should also bring appropriate front and rear lights.

All participants are ultimately responsible for their own safety, and at all times should ensure they are visible to traffic, and take into account road and traffic conditions. Additionally, first aid provisions are no different from those that would apply when cycling on your own, or informally with friends.
