AI Security Night Boston: Detecting Threats in AI Applications
Hosted in partnership with Elastic

Hey Boston! We're back for another AI Security Night, bringing together developers, security engineers, and AI practitioners for an evening of technical talks, practical insights, and great conversations.

This time, we're teaming up with Elastic to explore how to detect misuse of AI-powered applications, monitor emerging threats, and strengthen security across the AI development lifecycle.

Join us for two talks, networking, and the opportunity to connect with Boston's growing AI security community.

Talk 1 - Who watches the Watchmen: Detecting Misuse of Your Own AI Apps
Your LLM app is an attack surface, so monitor it like one. I’ll cover what OpenTelemetry GenAI conventions give you (prompts, responses, token counts, tool calls) and what you should keep out of your logs for privacy reasons. Then we’ll build detections for prompt injection, jailbreak attempts, token spikes, and tool calls that shouldn’t be happening.
Speaker - Scott Holt — Principal Solutions Architect, Elastic
Scott Holt is a Principal Solutions Architect at Elastic, based in Boston. He brings extensive experience in technical solution architecture, helping organizations understand and implement complex technologies. His background combines technical expertise with a pragmatic, customer-focused approach to solving real-world challenges.

Talk 2: If You Build It, They Will Bypass It: Adversarial Testing for AI Apps
As applications with AI agents gain autonomous tool access and system privileges, traditional security testing falls short. This talk covers adversarial testing strategies for agentic application risks, including goal hijacking, cascade failure, memory poisoning, and tool abuse, alongside practical techniques and process controls to keep your systems secure.
Speaker - John Van Lowe - Implementation Engineer, DeepTempo AI Based in Austin, Texas, John Van Lowe works with foundation encoder models to defend enterprise networks while collaborating closely with teams across tech hubs like the Bay Area and Boston. He brings deep technical expertise from mission-critical work spanning NASA, the USAF/DOD, Micron, and managed infrastructure environments, paired with an active presence in the cyber community. His approach combines hands-on engineering with a dedication to empowering others through a "teach to master" philosophy.
