Brooklyn Heights Sunset and History Tour!

Email me at hankorenstein@gmail.com to request a spot once you have RSVP'd. Cost: This tour is pay what you wish at the end of the tour: cash, venmo or zelle. Meeting place: In front of the library. Restrooms before the Tour: Arrive early - restrooms inside the library which is open luntil 6:00pm. Restrooms will be available at the end of the tour at the Empire Stores in DUMBO. Overview/Description Bring your camera! This walk will take us through the lovely streets of Brooklyn Heights, America’s first commuter suburb and NYC’s first designated historic district, filled with quaint homes, mansions and architectural treasures. Some say it is NYC's most beautiful neighborhood. We'll talk cover Brooklyn's history as an independent city until 1898 and how it has managed to maintain a unique identity, separate from the rest of NYC. We will stop by a church where Abraham Lincoln visited and gained inspiration to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, and stroll the streets frequented by famous American authors and learn about the literary history of the neighborhood. We’ll take in the spectacular views of the city and the harbor and learn about the Battle of Brooklyn including General George Washington’s pivotal escape across the East River with 9,000 troops to preserve the American Revolution on August 29, 1776.
