Dear Book Rafters,
This month's theme is Chaos. It is a word that emerges from the ancient Greek χάος [Khaos], originally meaning a yawning gulf, void, or open gaping space. It is a state of primordial disorder, confusion, indeterminacy or formlessness. It can refer both to the absence of an organising structure and to a condition from which new forms, structures and worlds might emerge. We can encounter and experience it in and from different areas and perspectives, such as in scientific theory, metaphysical and religious myths, political anarchy, and the origin of creativity that may lead to a cosmos in shaping worlds.
What are the most meaningful, memorable or striking descriptions of chaos that you found in a novel, short story, poem, or other piece of literary writing?
Please BRING TO THE MEETING A LITERARY PASSAGE about this topic that you have found in a piece of writing and that you would like to share with us! [Please read the text in English. If it's a translation, you are welcome to also bring the text in the original language, and if we have time we can then also hear it in the original.]
NOTE:
Suggested donation to cover the expenses of this meetup group: 3 Euros.
