We will cap off our year-long America250 celebration with a trip to Washington Crossing for an early commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Trenton, where George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware to rout British and Hessian forces on Christmas night, 1776.
So join us for a guided walking tour at Washington Crossing Historic Park, followed by lunch at the Washington Crossing Inn. From the Washington Crossing Historic Park website:
Begin your experience in the Visitor Center with a brief introductory film before heading outdoors to explore the riverbank where Washington and his army crossed the Delaware on Christmas night in 1776. Along the way, you will learn about the Ten Crucial Days that changed the course of the Revolution, how troops and equipment made it safely across the icy river, and what the crossing and its aftermath meant for the soldiers and camp followers who endured it.
We'll see the McConkey Ferry Inn, (pictured on this page) where the crossing was planned and launched from, check out replicas of the Durham boats that made the crossing and see other historic sites at the park, while learning more about how the crossing was made and how the Battle of Trenton was won. Before the tour, we'll watch the brand new short film (released in November) about the crossing.
The tour will last about an hour and costs $13 per person. Pay at the visitor center. It starts at 1 p.m., they've asked us to arrive at least 10-15 minutes early. Lunch will follow at the Washington Crossing Inn, which doesn't go quite as far back as the Battle of Trenton, but commemorates the crossing and is in a former private home built in 1817.
Join us for either part of the day you wish but I recommend both!
See you there.
