Distance 82kms, 740 ascent
Join us for a cycle out from Drogheda to Monasterboice via Mellifont Abbey, returning to Dublin via Drogheda, Bellewstown and Oldtown. This is a route with numerous hills including a long steep ascent to Bellewstown so a good level of fitness is needed.

Here is the plan for the day:

1. Meeting outside Drogheda train station at 10.15am..
2. You can travel on the Dublin to Drogheda commuter train that leaves Connolly Station at 09.10arriving in Drogheda at 10.15. You can bring your bicycle on Irish Rail commuter trains without having to book a space for them.
3. We cycle to Mellifont Abbey from Drogheda, passing through King Williams Glen and Tullyallen and then on to Monasterboice round tower and high cross before taking a different route back to Drogheda.
4. We will stop to view both the 13th century abbey at Mellifont and also the monastic site/ round tower at Monasterboice.
5. From Monasterboice we return to Drogheda where we will have a coffee/lunch stop at the Salthouse cafe/restaurant before returning to Dublin on mostly quiet backroads including a steep climb to Bellewstown and on passing Four Knocks Passage tomb, and on through Oldtown and St Margaret’s before arriving back in Dublin City at Ballymun.

Please wear a helmet and bring a tube etc in case you get a puncture.
Please note - It is every participant's responsibility to ride safely, follow the rules of the road, and come prepared with the proper equipment.
Please cycle single file on narrow busy roads
