Poet, activist, and scholar Judy Grahn was born in Chicago and grew up in New Mexico. She joined the Air Force but was discharged at 21 for being openly gay. A central member of the West Coast feminist poetry movement of the 1970s, Grahn received a PhD from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
Judy Grahn is coming to the Billy DeFrank Center
Free Event: Sunday, November 8th, 2pm - 4pm
Judy will talk about what it was like to be a lesbian in the 1970's and 80's - this will be a taste of herstory for young queer womxn and
nostalgia for the older folks.
Julie Enszer of Sinister Wisdom recently published an updated version of her 1985 book The Highest Apple: Sappho and the Lesbian Poetic Tradition. She may read from that and a bit of earlier work too.
She also has new work, ecopoetic poems, and poetic renderings of some rather radical and heretical teachings from The Gospel of Mary Magdalen = no sin, for instance. No father God.
