Pull up a chair at our mountain lodge for the Trails Club's 5th annual Pre-Thanksgiving Potluck.
Thanksgiving at Tyee is a club tradition that goes back to 1981, when 52 members sat down for the lodge's first Thanksgiving dinner. Over the years the Trail Blazer newsletter has reported ten apple pies from one baker, 40 pounds of potatoes and carrots "executed" by the peeling crew, popovers "disappearing as fast as they could be served," and snow sculptures on the lawn. The menu changes; the idea doesn't: good food, good company, and a warm fire.
\The plan\
Saturday, Nov. 21. Dinner is served at 1:30 p.m.
Paul Cutter is roasting the turkey and making the gravy. Bring a potluck dish of your choice.
Please sign up for your dish here so the table comes out balanced: https://potluck.trailsclub.org/friendsgiving-2026
The ovens are for warming only after noon, so cook at home and reheat at the lodge.
After dinner: a short hike, or social time by the fireplace, possibly some live music.
\Stay the weekend\
Tyee is open from Friday at 4 p.m. to Sunday at noon. Bring a sleeping bag and make a night of it. Contact Paul if you plan on staying the weekend: https://trailsclub.org/events/tyee-is-open-29/
\Getting there\
Tyee Lodge, 30133 West Leg Road, Government Camp, OR. Carpool if you can, or take the 9:15 or 11:15 a.m. Mt. Hood Express bus from Sandy ($2 cash each way). Late-November weather on the mountain can turn wintry, so carry traction devices and check road conditions before you go.
New to the Trails Club? This is a great first event. Members have been hiking and gathering together since 1915.
Still hungry the next weekend? Walk off the leftovers on the 2nd annual Post-Thanksgiving Triple Crown hike, Saturday, Nov. 28, in Portland.
