Questions Nobody Can Avoid - Where Did We Come From?

We currently exist. The world and the universe exist. Everything that is, exists. (Deep stuff, right?)

The big question is where did existence come from? Was there a time when there was nothing? Or, has existence always existed?

The cosmological argument state that everything that begins to exist or happens requires a cause. Because an infinite chain of past causes is considered impossible, there must be an uncaused "First Cause," which proponents identify as God.

If you don't believe in God (the God of the Bible), how would you counter this argument? What is the alternative that makes more sense
