For our November/December meeting, we're stepping into the world of critical theory and philosophy with one of the most influential works of modern social criticism.

Published in 1967, The Society of the Spectacle is a provocative critique of modern consumer society, mass media, capitalism, and the growing dominance of images and appearances over lived experience.
Debord argues that in modern society, authentic human relationships are increasingly replaced by representations, advertising, entertainment, and endless consumption. More than half a century later, his ideas seem remarkably relevant in the age of social media, influencer culture, and digital entertainment.
Some questions to think about:

Are we living our lives or watching representations of them?
How does social media shape our perception of reality?
Has everything become a commodity, including our identities and relationships?
Is it possible to escape the spectacle?
