Real Stories. Real People. Real Conversations

Halloween Book Club: The Spirit Bares Its Teeth 🎃📚

Join us at Leafs and Ground on October 31, from 12–1 p.m., for a Halloween discussion of The Spirit Bares Its Teeth, a Stonewall Honor Book by Andrew Joseph White.
Set in an alternate Victorian England, this gothic horror novel follows Silas Bell, a trans, autistic teenager who uncovers terrifying secrets at a sinister finishing school. Ghosts, resistance, and the fight to live as yourself give us plenty to talk about.
Reviewers have called it:

> “Visceral and vindicating.” — Kirkus Reviews

> “an unsettlingly horrific tale that boasts a rich and fully realized world” — Publishers Weekly

We’ll discuss the moments that haunted us, the characters we rooted for, and how White brings identity, power, and belonging into a ghost story with teeth.
Bring your thoughts, favorite passages, and burning questions. Whether you’re a longtime member or joining us for the first time, we’d love to hear your perspective!
