Join us this November and learn how to experiment with natural dye colour extracted from kitchen waste & common plants. We will guide you through the process explaining all the steps you need to complete to achieve the best possible colour outcomes.
What You Will Learn
How to prepare fibres for maximum colour uptake: the scouring process, tannin treatments and mordanting for your specific fibre content
Colour extraction: preparing plant materials and how to draw out it’s unique colour
Shifting dye colours with PH modifiers: using acid and alkali to change the colour outcome of your dye experiment.
How to create designs using ‘invisible’ vinegar paint or chalk line drawing that reveals the pattern once submerged in the dye bath
You can bring cloth, yarn and/or a piece of clothing to experiment with but ensure that the fibre content is 100% natural; silk, wool, cotton, hemp or linen, or a blend of natural fibres. Book here https://camdencommunitymakers.org/workshop-using-natural-dyes-saturday-14-november-2026/
