And our timing makes this visit even more special: the Museum’s new Martha Washington exhibition will have opened earlier that very week!

🕯️ STEP INSIDE A PLACE WHERE HISTORY HAPPENED

Imagine New York during the Revolutionary era—a city caught up in the struggle for independence, where taverns served as gathering places for conversation, political debate, and the exchange of news.
Fraunces Tavern was part of that world.
It was here that George Washington bid farewell to his officers at the end of the Revolutionary War, in a moment remembered for its emotion and gratitude after years of shared sacrifice.
Today, the Museum’s recreated Long Room, historic interiors, artifacts, and exhibitions help bring that world into focus. With our guide, we’ll explore the people and stories connected to this landmark and discover how Fraunces Tavern became part of the history of a new nation.
Come curious—there is much more to this famous tavern than its name!

🌸 JUST OPENED: MARTHA, THE FIRST FOUNDING MOTHER REVEALED

Our visit will include the Museum’s brand-new exhibition devoted to Martha Washington, offering a closer look at her experiences during the Revolution and her influence on the role of America’s First Lady.
What was life like for Martha during the war? Why did she travel to the Continental Army’s winter encampments? And what can her personal belongings and letters reveal about the woman behind the familiar portrait?
The exhibition explores these questions through objects and documents, including:
🥿 A slipper that belonged to Martha Washington, providing a personal connection to her everyday life.
✉️ Correspondence revealing the human side of wartime experiences, including Martha’s hopes for peace after the fighting ended.
❄️ Her journeys to the Army’s winter camps, and the work she undertook there.
🌟 The expectations she helped establish for the First Lady, alongside the wider contributions of women to the Revolutionary cause.
We’ll be visiting during the exhibition’s opening week—a particularly exciting time to discover it together!

🔐 A PRIVATE EXPERIENCE FOR OUR SOCIAL CLUB

Our tour will be led by a docent dedicated to our group, with our members staying together throughout the visit.
We’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, hear the stories behind the displays, and share our discoveries with one another.
Although the Museum permits up to 25 visitors with one guide, we are limiting this event to 20 Social Club members to keep our group more comfortable, particularly in the smaller Martha Washington exhibition gallery.
