Anticipated weather on hike day
This ~3 mile hike starts from the north end of Pony Pasture Parking area and follows trails along the James River through the Pony Pasture, around the wetlands and a loop back to the parking lot. If you attended the 9.4.2026 Huguenot Flatwaters hike, this is the promised extension. We'll have fewer stories along the way and maybe a tad faster pace in the cooler weather. At 2.4 mph, this hike takes under 2 hours. There is a restroom and water station at the Pony Pasture parking lot.
This is a hike over dirt trails, wooden bridge and improved surfaces, but anticipate some rock hopping, root and stone dodging and giving a wide berth to low branches and toxic plants. (Don't touch anything green!)
The hike will begin at the posted time; please be on time. If you are unfamiliar with the MeetUp location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us. If you need help with directions, click on the inset map in the event description under "How to find us" to display a larger interactive map. When you select "Directions" (upper left) the best route from your location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated.
Before the hike be sure to secure your vehicle while you are hiking. While your event host is providing a framework for your MeetUp hiking experience, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being.

What to Bring
Water bottle, clothing appropriate for the season, a cap or bonnet, aspirin, sun block, insect repellent, band aids, practical footwear & a snack. Consider blocking time to meet for lunch afterwards!
