L is for Liquid History - A guided history walk along the River Fleet

Join us for another one of (LoMAZ member) Richard Barnett’s epic walks. Always oversubscribed interest to these events. “He’s a bit of a legend!” Clare (host) This time we shall be exploring one of London’s many lost rivers- the greatest of them all - the mighty Fleet. A prehistoric tributary, a Roman trade route, a medieval moat, an eighteenth-century eyesore and a Victorian sewer. The history of the Fleet captures both the potent symbolism and the stomach-churning reality of London’s relationship with dirt. Join us as we paddle – metaphorically – in the Fleet’s lower reaches, exploring the experiences of those who have lived and died beside it over two thousand years of urban history. You will need to join the WhatAapp group before the event starts, as if you’re late, you’ll just need to catch us up (the hosts will not be picking up their phones!) Finishes close to Blackfriars Tube at the Blackfriars Pub. 4.45/5pm-Late: PUB STOP @ The Blackfriar (close to Blackfriar’s tube station). We cannot book a table here , so we’ll do a drink or two standing and then go to another pub for drinks/ food and proper social. 6 ish- Late Head to Pub Social for drink and foods (not compulsory!) Venue confirmed for attendees. Short walk from The Blackfriar. Seated area reserved. TICKETS: Not Needed. Richard kindly gifts LoMAZ these walks, and in exchange we ask he doesn’t need to put his hand in his pocket for drinks in the pub! So, please, please do not placehold for this event.
