Visit the Coast for Birds and Wildlife

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, 9:30 am, the Houston Sierra Club will meet at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Candy Abshier Wildlife Management Area (WMA) at Smith Point, Chambers County. We’ll visit a “Hawk Watch” observation platform to look for raptors and other birds. We’ll also drive to Trinity Bay and look for shorebirds.

We’ll then drive to Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge (formerly Anahuac) to eat our lunches, bird, and enjoy the natural scenery. If time permits, on our way home, we’ll visit the Texas Chenier Plain Refuge Complex Office and enjoy a board walk through a cypress swamp on Lake Anahuac.

The link below has a participant sign-in agreement (liability waiver). Please read this before this outing so you know what it says and can sign-in quickly at the WMA and we can proceed with the outing. Sign-Up Sheet 2-2020.pdf (sierraclub.org)

If anyone has COVID symptoms or is sick don’t come! We want everyone to be safe. You’ll be with people who are vaccinated/unvaccinated. It’s your choice to participate on this outing.
