It's time for another Coffee, Cake & Coins! This time, we'll focus on pensions. They're so confusing that it's tempting to stick your head in the sand. But not only will your older self thank you if you don't, but you can potentially get an instant 28% return on your investment if you put money in your pension rather than spending it. And that's not even taking into account your employer's contribution! We will discuss:
-The state pension, how it works, how to top up your qualifying years, and why you shouldn't rely on this alone
-The basics of workplace pensions and how they work
-Defined benefit vs. defined contribution pensions
-The magic of salary sacrifice and why NOW is the time to max this if you can
-Options for those who are self-employed or in atypical situations
-Tracking old pensions and consolidating them
-The pros and cons of using a Lifestyle fund vs. doing it yourself
If you want to prepare and are employed, try and get as much info on your employer's pension scheme as you can. We can go through it and any questions you may have during the meetup.
Please let me know in the comments if there's anything else you'd like to discuss, or just mention it on the day :)
Please note: This group is for general discussion and peer support only. We’re not financial professionals, and nothing shared in the meetup should be taken as financial advice.
