Early inhabitants of the area, the Lenni Lenape, named the creek “To-Hick-Hanne” meaning “Deer-Bone-Creek,” leading to the modern name Tohickon Creek.
Early industry depended on Tohickon Creek. Ralph Stover State Park marks the site of a late 18th century water-powered grist mill. The park takes its name from Ralph Stover who owned and operated the mill. Remnants of the mill and the millrace, which diverted the water from above the dam to power the mill, are still visible.
During 1931, the Stover heirs gave this property to the commonwealth for use as a state park. Recreational facilities were first opened during 1935 after development by the federal Works Progress Administration.

This is a Fall Classic 7 mile loop that will be traversing the various trails throughout scenic Ralph Stover and Tohickon Parks, including Tohickon Creek and High Rocks Vista a 200 foot rock face used for rock climbing.
Hilly terrain but, will not have any significant elevation change.
There will be rocks, roots and wet/muddy sections so wear appropriate foot wear. Rock Hopping water crossings if rain prior to event.
Will need to be alert for the spitting red-eye toad that lurks around the creek.

Note: Will be taking access trail below rock face, this trail can be precarious and is rocky and narrow in spots. This section can be bypassed if desired.

Bring water and a snack, will make brief stops to take in views.
Facilities are available. Please no Pets.
Insect Repellent recommended for this time of year.
Will cancel for unpleasant weather.
Mobile service is spotty.
