West Ridge and Redwood Peak Loop (Moderate 5.1 Miles)

We’re heading back to the Oakland hills for another hike through the redwoods! We’ll start at Roberts Regional Recreation Area and follow a loop into the adjoining Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park.

This is a 5.1-mile loop with about 1,100 ft of elevation gain. Expect shaded redwood groves, some more open ridge sections, and a few steeper climbs to keep things interesting. This route is also part of the 2026 East Bay Regional Parks Trails Challenge.

We’ll continue with our average pace of 21–23 minutes per mile. Everyone attending should be comfortable hiking at this pace and keeping up with the main group. Please consider the distance and elevation gain when deciding whether this hike is within your comfort range.

Dogs are welcome, but please keep them leashed during the group hike.

Parking:
Roberts Regional Recreation Area
10570 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA 94619
Enter Roberts and head to the lower parking lot just beyond the swim complex. Parking is $5 per vehicle, cashless, so bring a credit card or tap-to-pay option. Please carpool if possible.

Where to meet:
We’ll meet at the Graham Trail entrance, to the right of the Diablo Vista picnic site sign, by the lower parking lot.
Please arrive about 10 minutes before 9:30 AM on Saturday, October 24. We’ll start the hike shortly after 9:30.
There are restrooms at Roberts near the start. Please allow time to park and use the facilities before we head out.
If you’re going to be late, please message early because cell service may be unreliable once we’re on the trail. I’d recommend downloading the route on AllTrails for offline use in case you get separated from the group.

Please Bring:
Plenty of water — at least ~2L recommended
Snacks
Sunscreen and a hat
Sturdy hiking shoes
A light layer for the shaded sections
Hiking poles if you like using them on climbs and descents
Good vibes

Post-Hike Lunch:
For those interested, we’ll grab an optional lunch afterward! Location TBD, and we may decide together once we finish the hike.
