This tour of the mansion will be given by a park ranger and will include the history of the plantation from the mid-19th Century into the 20th century.

Gamble mansion was built in the 1840s by Robert Gamble. The plantation grew sugar cane, primarily, for the market in New Orleans. When the Civil War ended, he Secretary of War for the Confederacy, Judah P. Benjamin, hid from the Union at Gamble Mansion until he could escape to England. After touring the home with the park ranger, you'll be able to walk the grounds and visit the small museum. If you've been to the Reflections of Manatee tour, this makes an interesting contrast.
