Peñas de Santa María

The hike joins the pretty villages of Olba and Fuentes de Rubielos. Since tthis is a circular route, it is possible to start the hike in either of them. This time we decided to start it from Fuentes de Rubielos. First part of the route will take us through smooth agricultural fields, and further into the forests, where Autumn has already began to show its colours. As we hike deeper and deeper, the path will eventually bring us to the valley of Miajres river, and the surroundings of Olba. Here we will have the best chance to witness the seasonal changes and rest a bit as we stroll along the medieval streets of Olba.
After passing the village, there will be a steep but short ascend, which will bring us to the viewpoint of Peñas de Santa María - a natural viewpoint showcasing the limestone and sandstone formations that shape the valley. Here the path flattens and we eventually join the historical path of Camino del Cid - an ancient path of el Cid the Conquerer, that he took on his way to Valencia. A final descent will bring us back to Fuentes de Rubielos for a satisfactory finish of the day's route.
