Climb some fun rock and hang with the team around the campfire at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. This was absolutely a blast last year and I'm hoping to make it even better this year! Because the size of the climbing area is limited, this event is limited to 10 people. Please join the waitlist if interested, as spots are likely to open up.
This is a great event to attend if you are curious about rock climbing, or have climbed indoors and want to get out and try real rock. The climbing is beginner-friendly and unintimidating, and no prior skills are necessary—we will teach you to belay!
Some gear is required, which includes:
Certified climbing helmet
Certified climbing harness
Climbing shoes (technically optional but strongly recommended)
Belay device suitable for top rope belay, and 1 locking carabiner
If you are missing some of this gear, that's okay, some people have extras and we can work out some loaner gear (loaner shoes are a long shot because feet come in so many sizes).
The cost for this event is $50 which will be due on Wednesday, Nov 4. This cost covers campsites, park admission, and reimbursing fuel for those who drive a carpool to the park. Other costs (food, camping gear, etc) are your responsibility.
We will carpool from Austin early Saturday morning, head straight for the climbing area, get our sends on, and then retire to camp for food, drinks, and merriment, then climb a little more Sunday before heading back to Austin in the afternoon. This event is weather-dependent, as the park closes the climbing area if there has been recent rain. However we will not shy away from a little cold, so bring some layers if it's going to be chilly. The climbing area is well-sheltered from wind.
