Is 'meaning' a necessary prerequisite for our existence? If there was no purpose why would anything exist at all -- random chance? Maybe a circular explanation would satisfy some people, such as: 'Existence and purpose are the same thing'.

There seem to be 3 flavors of personal beliefs surrounding the term 'meaning'. 1. Those who believe in an objective meaning of which our lives contribute, 2. Those who believe they can choose their own meaning (subjective meaning) and 3. The concept of meaning is folly and reality is devoid of such a concept.

Can we make the claim that a completely empty universe holds less meaning/value than a bustling universe full of stars and life? Obviously this all relies on what definition we ascribe to meaning/value. Whats your hunch?

NEW LOCATION!!! We are meeting this week at the 3 park benches (right next to the brown clubhouse) at Lick Mill Park! Park here:

and look for our infamous whiteboard behind the brown clubhouse!

This is an informal spitballing session, no need to be to philosophy pro at sll!!
