Cheese, castle views and autumn colour: a perfect day out from Valencia

Swap the city for a day of fresh air, local flavours and golden mountain scenery. This is a relaxed, sociable outing with gentle walking, great food and some of the prettiest villages in the Sierra de Espadán Natural Park. It’s especially beautiful in autumn, when the hillsides turn to russet and gold.

Cheese tasting in Almedíjar
We leave Valencia by car and head to the charming village of Almedíjar, where we visit the award-winning artisan cheesemakers at Quesería Artesana Los Corrales.

You’ll see how their cheeses are made from a blend of goat, sheep and cow’s milk, then taste 5 or 6 different varieties. If you fall for one, you can buy it to take home at around €25 per kg, about what you’d pay for supermarket cheese, but handmade and far more special. Local wines are also available to pair with your tasting.

A walk from Aín to the Castle overlooking the village
Next we drive to Aín, tucked into the heart of the Sierra de Espadán. Our y circular walk follows the river past the old molinos (watermills), then climbs up to the village castle and takes about an hour. The views over the rooftops and surrounding mountains are superb, and even better in autumn colours.

Picnic with a view
At the castle viewpoint we’ll stop for a relaxed picnic lunch. Bring bread, biscuits, wine or any treats you’d like to share. We’ll provide cups, paper plates, knives and a bottle opener, so all you need is your appetite.
Time to unwind

Afterwards we’ll wander through the pretty village of Aín and finish with a drink at the bar in the town square.

Queso, vistas al castillo y colores otoñales: una excursión perfecta desde Valencia.
Cambia la ciudad por un día de aire puro, sabores locales y paisajes de montaña dorados. Esta es una excursión relajada y agradable con paseos tranquilos, buena comida y algunos de los pueblos más bonitos del Parque Natural de la Sierra de Espadán. Es especialmente hermoso en otoño, cuando las laderas se tiñen de tonos rojizos y dorados.

Cata de quesos en Almedíjar
Salimos de Valencia en coche y nos dirigimos al encantador pueblo de Almedíjar, donde visitaremos la galardonada quesería artesanal Los Corrales .

Verás cómo se elaboran sus quesos con una mezcla de leche de cabra, oveja y vaca, y luego degustarás 5 o 6 variedades diferentes. Si te enamoras de alguna, puedes comprarla para llevar a casa por unos 25 € el kilo, un precio similar al de un queso de supermercado, pero artesanal y mucho más especial. También hay vinos locales disponibles para acompañar la cata.

Un paseo del pueblo de Aín hasta el Castillo
A continuación, nos dirigimos a Aín, enclavado en el corazón de la Sierra de Espadán. Nuestra ruta circular sigue el curso del río, pasando por los antiguos molinos de agua, para luego ascender hasta el castillo del pueblo dura mas o menos una hora. Las vistas de los tejados y las montañas circundantes son magníficas, y aún mejores con los colores otoñales.

En el mirador del castillo, haremos una parada para disfrutar de un picnic relajado. Trae pan, galletas, vino o cualquier otro aperitivo que quieras compartir. Nosotros te proporcionaremos vasos, platos de papel, cuchillos y un abridor de botellas, así que solo necesitas tu apetito.
Es hora de relajarse.
Después, pasearemos por el bonito pueblo de Aín y terminaremos con una copa en el bar de la plaza del pueblo
