Starting from Drumgoff in the beautiful Glenmalure Valley, we'll make our way up into the heart of the Wicklow Mountains, leaving the forests and valleys behind as we climb towards Lugnaquilla's broad, open summit at 925 metres.

This is a challenging mountain hike, with approximately 16.5 km of walking, sustained climbing and sections of rough, uneven and potentially boggy ground. A good level of hillwalking fitness and some previous mountain hiking experience are essential.

As always, this isn't a race. We'll walk at a steady, sensible pace, taking time for breaks, photographs, a bite to eat and a bit of conversation along the way.

Whether you've climbed Lugnaquilla before or it's been on your hiking wish list for years, this promises to be a rewarding day in the mountains with a friendly group of fellow walkers.
