LEE HARRIS’S ALBUM SESSIONS PRESENTS:

Before there was

THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

there was

ECLIPSE – A PIECE FOR ASSORTED LUNATICS

Lee Harris, Dom Beken, Yaron Stavi and Ged Lynch return to The Half Moon, Putney for the second edition of Lee Harris’s Album Sessions, exploring Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon through its remarkable early live incarnation, Eclipse – A Piece for Assorted Lunatics.

Lee Harris’s Album Sessions is a live series celebrating landmark albums, performed in their entirety while allowing the music the freedom to evolve on stage. Rather than attempting to reproduce the records note for note, each performance approaches the music as a live event – honouring its defining moments while leaving room for interpretation and spontaneity.

Following the sell out of the inaugural Album Sessions performances of Pink Floyd’s Meddle, the second edition reunites Lee Harris, Dom Beken, Yaron Stavi and Ged Lynch to explore one of the most fascinating periods in Pink Floyd’s history.

Before The Dark Side of the Moon was recorded and released in 1973, Pink Floyd developed and performed the work extensively on stage. During 1972 it was presented under the working title Eclipse – A Piece for Assorted Lunatics, with arrangements, transitions and musical ideas that continued to develop as the band toured.

The four musicians bring a remarkable collective history to the project.

Lee Harris and Dom Beken are both members of Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, the acclaimed group formed to revisit the early music of Pink Floyd. Together they have performed extensively around the world, bringing this material to new audiences.

Bass player Yaron Stavi has a particularly direct connection to Pink Floyd’s musical world. He has recorded and performed with David Gilmour and is featured on Gilmour’s 2015 album Rattle That Lock. Stavi has also worked extensively with Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, Robert Wyatt and Nigel Kennedy, alongside leading figures in jazz and classical music.

Drummer and percussionist Ged Lynch has worked with Peter Gabriel since 2002, recording and touring extensively with him. His credits also include David Gilmour, Goldfrapp, The Charlatans, Electronic, Yusuf/Cat Stevens and Tom Jones, among many others. He contributed drums to David Gilmour’s On An Island album.

Together, the four musicians bring deep connections to the music and musicians of Pink Floyd, without approaching the material as a conventional tribute band.

“Nick wisely said that in Saucerful of Secrets we were not recreating but reinterpreting,” says Lee Harris. “That’s exactly the ethos we bring to Album Sessions. We honour the iconic moments that all of us love whilst allowing the music to evolve live, just as Pink Floyd did on stage.”

ECLIPSE – A PIECE FOR ASSORTED LUNATICS

What eventually became The Dark Side of the Moon was first developed as a live work, with Pink Floyd using concerts throughout 1972 to shape and refine the music before recording the album.

Eclipse – A Piece for Assorted Lunatics returns to that idea: four musicians approaching this extraordinary body of music as a living performance rather than a museum piece.

In the intimate surroundings of The Half Moon, Putney, Album Sessions offers a rare opportunity to experience the music at close quarters and in the exploratory spirit in which it was originally developed.
