Let's Lift the Curfew 2026: join us for a special session
Tonight we're joining forces with This Girl Can and their Let's Lift the Curfew campaign.
When the clocks go back on Sunday 25 October, millions of women across the UK will once again see their world get smaller as the nights get darker.
Safety concerns affect where they go, when they go, who they go with and
whether they can be active outdoors at all.
Whether shaped by past experiences, stories they've heard, or not feeling comfortable or confident in a particular place after dark, many women are unable to be active outdoors or use public spaces in the same way that men do.
In fact, nearly three-quarters (72%) of women in the UK change their outdoor
activity routines during winter. Let's Lift the Curfew challenges this reality to ensure no woman has to change where, when or how she gets active because of safety concerns.
You can read about, and complete, GoodGym's own training on this issue here. (https://www.goodgym.org/v3/stories/women-night-safety)
Tonight's Task
The task this week will be assisting at the Newtown Community Food Event, hosted by the local Chinese restaurant and supported by the Secret Garden.
The restaurant is serving nearly 100 free meals to the local community, and we’ll be on hand 6:45pm to 8pm to help serve and clear tables ready for each group.
We will meet at the Phoenix on Gandy Street where we have access to a secure area for bags and belongings, as well as cycle racks if you’d prefer to cycle.
If you are meeting us direct at the restaurant we’ll be there from 6:45pm. The address is Dee Yi, 21A Heavitree Rd, Exeter EX1 2LD
What to bring - this is an indoor task so please wear comfortable clothes with your GoodGym shirt (if you have one!) the run from the Phoenix is only about 1km but please consider what layers to wear as it’s bound to be cold then hot!
