This month we're reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.

November is when a lot of us sit down with family and talk about what we're thankful for. I wanted us to spend it with a Black American woman telling her own story in her own words. Angelou grew up between Stamps, Arkansas, and California. After something happened to her as a child, she stopped speaking for years. Books and poetry, and the women who raised her, are what brought her voice back. She wrote this book about that life herself, and it's still one of the most important American memoirs we have.

Flow for the afternoon:

· 4:30–5:15 — Guided group discussion
· 5:15–6:00 — Open discussion, mingling, and free flowing conversation
