Join filmmaker Ken Kwek for the launch of Anton and the Scammers, a funny and timely story about family, fame and growing up in the digital age. In conversation with author and journalist Peh Shing Huei, Ken will talk about influencer culture, online scams and what inspired Anton’s latest adventure. Bring your burning questions and get your books signed.

Illustrator Lolita Chiong will also be drawing free portraits for attendees and taking scribble requests on a big whiteboard, so come with ideas!

About the book:

Ken Kwek brings humour to the world of influencers, scammers and growing up online.

Anton and his sister Bella are tweenfluencers—filming, posting and chasing views online. After their parents’ divorce throws family life off balance, even the internet starts to feel out of control. When their grandmother moves in, she discovers social media for herself, and to everyone’s surprise, becomes an influencer in her own right. Freebies roll in, followers multiply and things spiral fast. But when her sudden online fame draws her into a dangerous scam, the family is pulled into a shadowy world where clicks have consequences and nothing is what it seems.

About the Author:

Ken Kwek is a screenwriter, film director, playwright and author of the best-selling Timothy and the Phubbers, his first children’s novel. He followed it with Kelly and the Krumps, and Anton and the Scammers is his third book. Ken studied literature at the University of Cambridge and dramatic writing at New York University. He worked as a journalist and a cook for a few years, then wrote and directed several movies.

About the Moderator:

Peh Shing Huei is a Singapore Literature Prize-winning author and journalist, and a former news editor and China bureau chief at The Straits Times. After years of chasing headlines, he now writes stories for young readers too, including Panjang: The Tall Boy Who Became Prime Minister (shortlisted for the Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Award), the bestselling Pineapple, Let’s Roll! and Ready, Kueh Set, Go!. A dad of two boys, he knows a thing or two about kids, screens and separating fact from fiction. He is a founding partner of The Nutgraf, a writing and communications agency.
