Programme Title: The Original Recipes Club: Malay Edition with Tingkat Takeaways

Date and Time: 7 November, 1030am to 12pm

Venue: Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery, Wisma Geylang Serai

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Long before sustainability became a global movement, Malay communities practised it as part of everyday life.

From preserving vegetables through pickling to cooking dishes that could last for days, many beloved Malay recipes were born from necessity, resourcefulness, and a deep understanding of how to make ingredients stretch further.

Led by storyteller Hafiz, invites participants into an intimate and reflective exploration of Malay food heritage through stories, tasting experiences, and meaningful conversations. Participants will uncover how traditional preservation methods shaped local dishes and discover practical ways these practices can still be applied in modern homes today.

By the end of the session, participants will leave with a deeper appreciation of Malay culinary traditions, a renewed understanding of sustainability through heritage, and practical recipes they can recreate themselves.

This is not a cooking class.

This programme is part of the Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery Open House! Find out more here.
