Join us for a workshop where participants will hear from the Orang Seletar community and experience their living heritage through the art of anyaman (traditional weaving).
At the heart of this programme is a sharing led by Orang Seletar artisans Jefree Salim, Anti Jahan, and Nek Leiti. Through their voices and stories, participants will be invited into the world of the Orang Laut. Listen to their histories, their deep connections to the Johor–Singapore Straits, and how coastal life, movement and belonging have shaped their identity over generations.
Following the sharing, participants will try their hand at anyaman by weaving their own headwear to take home, experiencing firsthand how weaving is intertwined with the community's relationship with natural materials, coastal environments and daily life.
The session closes with a facilitated reflection and dialogue, where participants are invited to consider how they can engage respectfully with and support Singapore's diverse living heritage.
This programme is recommended for 13 years and above. Photos taken during the programme may be used in the Museum’s publicity material.
This programme is Culture Pass eligible. For Singaporeans who wish to use their Culture Pass credits, please click here.
