Montenegrin Cinematheque marks the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage with the screening of the film “Monument of the Revolution” On the occasion of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, the Montenegrin Cinematheque will screen the documentary film “Monument of the Revolution”, directed by Mladen Ivanović, on October 26th at 8 PM. The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage was established by UNESCO in 2005 with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of protecting and making audiovisual materials accessible. Films, photographs, sound recordings, and other audiovisual documents represent precious testimonies of time, people, and social values, and their preservation ensures that the memories and experiences of past times remain accessible to future generations. In this context, the film “Monument of the Revolution” opens up space for reflection on collective memory and the ways we preserve traces of the past. Dedicated to the Monument to the Uprising of the People of Banija and Kordun, one of the most significant monument creations in the former Yugoslavia, the film captures its gradual decay through several years of filming and encounters with both random and less random visitors. By screening this achievement to mark this important date, the Cinematheque recalls the significance of film as a means of preserving cultural heritage and collective memory, but also the need to question what we protect from oblivion and what kind of heritage we leave to future generations. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the film’s director.
