FEMINESKOP 2026: The film Titane (2021), directed by Julia Ducournau The third edition of the Femineskop program, entirely dedicated to female filmmakers, opens with the film Titane by French director Julia Ducournau, winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. On the border of psychological thriller, horror, and a tale of transformation, Titane brings a disturbing and unpredictable story about identity, body, belonging, and the need for love. Following a series of unexplained crimes, young Alexia, who has had a titanium plate implanted in her skull since childhood, enters into an unusual relationship with a firefighter who recognizes her as his son who went missing ten years ago. Through radical aesthetics and shifting genre conventions, Ducournau explores the relationship between the human and the non-human, as well as the possibility of creating family bonds outside of conventional patterns. The film Titane represents a striking beginning to this year’s Femineskop, a program that opens up space for exploring different artistic poetics, sensibilities, and worldviews. Julia Ducournau is a French film director and screenwriter, recognizable for her distinctive and uncompromising approach to genre cinema, in which she explores the body, identity, social taboos, and the limits of human experience. She graduated in screenwriting from the prestigious French film school La Fémis. She caught the attention of the international public with her short film Junior (2011), while her feature debut Raw (2016), a horror film that examines social norms through a story of growing up and changing identity, won the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes Critics’ Week. She solidified her global recognition with the film Titane (2021), which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, making her the second female director in the festival’s history to win this accolade, and the first to receive it solo. With her films, Ducournau pushes the boundaries of the genre, blending provocative visual techniques with themes of identity, transformation, violence, and vulnerability. Her third feature film, Alpha, premiered in the main competition selection at Cannes in 2025. Nov 6th / 8 PM Gojko Kastratović Hall Free admission
