The production explores the connection between power and crime , while confronting police violence, the erosion of civil rights, and a society in which law can become an instrument of lawlessness. Unlike the warmth and playful humor associated with many of Nušić’s earlier comedies, The Deceased offers a biting and increasingly bleak satire . Savin’s production moves deliberately between comedy and tragedy, revealing the work’s darker contemporary resonance. The play premiered on July 30 at the Centre for Culture Tivat and received strong critical responses. Theatre critic Ana Tasić described the production as revealing Nušić’s “darkness” in a way that feels particularly relevant to the present day, while emphasizing its balance between tragic and comic elements.
