Sphelelo Mazibuko at Hugh's Jazz Club

Sphelelo Mazibuko is a studio engineer, drum technician and a music educator from Johannesburg, South Africa. He was born in a family musicians. His father and siblings are all musicians. He began playing drums at the age of 14. Mazibuko attended University of KwaZulu-Natal where he studied a BA in Music and Media studies. He also studied music and drumming under the guidance of respected jazz educators Neil Gonsalves and Bruce Baker. He has performed and recorded as a drummer with many accomplished South African artists thus earning him exposure. The names of the artists he has worked with includes: Idols winner Lloyd Cele, Dorothy Masuka, jazz reedman Steve Dyer, Mthunzi Namba, late gospel sensation Sifiso Ncwane, Standard Bank Young Artist Award recipients Bokani Dyer, Shane Cooper, Benjamin Jephta, Siya Makuzeni and Nduduzo Makhathini as well as Concord Nkabinde. Mazibuko’s freelance work has taken him to all corners of South Africa and Virginia in the US. Some of the events he has performed at include the annual International Cape Town Jazz Festival, Macufe Music Festival, Durban Jazz Festival, Midem (France), Jazz Ahead (Germany), Musique en ete (Switzerland), Joy of Jazz, to name a few. Mazibuko is also a member of a progressive musical band called Africa Plus. He also runs a Production Company – Anavo Pro, which offers live music entertainment and audio visual solutions.
