Elijah Minnelli at Fasching

Elijah Minnelli makes dub that grows from roots other than the usual ones. Test Pressing has described it as earthy, deeply rooted mutations of the reggae gene, shaped as much by folk music and cumbia as by dub itself. Since the breakthrough album Perpetual Musket (FatCat, 2024), the attention has only grown, earning praise from both The Guardian and The Quietus.

Live, it’s all about the mixing desk. This is where Minnelli rebuilds his sound from the ground up: rattling, loosely assembled percussion and warm, deep sub-bass, layered with his own vocals and folk melodies. The result falls somewhere between sound system culture and melancholic balladry. With this approach, he has performed at venues including Cafe OTO in London, Dubfabrikken in Copenhagen and Circus Krone in Munich, alongside artists such as Shackleton, The Notwist and Holy Tongue.

Sedan genombrottsalbumet Perpetual Musket (FatCat, 2024) har uppmärksamheten bara ökat, med lovord från både The Guardian och The Quietus.
Live handlar det främst om mixerbordet. Där bygger Minnelli om sitt sound från grunden: skramlande, löst hopfogade slagverk och varma, djupa sub-basar, med egen sång och folkmelodier lagda ovanpå. Resultatet ligger någonstans mellan sound system och melankolisk balladkonst.
